They are usually used in servers for light OSes that run from RAM once booted. They require specific support (usually server boards, mentioning SATADOM) as they need either a powered SATA port or a specific secondary connector close to the SATA-port.

Generally they are low capacity, have low read/write speeds and are only geared towards reliability. The one you linked is more modern one with higher capacity and speeds but is completely out of whack on the price/performance or price/GB scale. It seems to have a Molex 4-pin power adapter included.
