PCI-E Bifurcation

Supposedly both the Biostar and the ASRock support bifurcation. John has a splitter so he will put their claims to the test 
What is bifurcation ? I read one answer on quora but still dont get it.
Splitting up pci-e lanes? For what? To run 10 gpu's for mining on one pci-e port?

For most of us, splitting a 16x PCIE 3.0 slot into two 8x slots to have dual GPUs on an ITX motherboard

Using a quality riser card or PCIe cable to bifurcate a PCIe slot will not impact GPU performance:

Also, dividing a single 16x down to two 8x lanes has zero impact as well (even when comparing PCIe 3.0 to PCIe 2.0):
