Hi guys,

Just installed my BOXNUC7I5BNK as a media center, so hooked to my TV by HDMI. It's running fully updated Win10 (and Kodi if you're interested). Very simple setup.

Now the weirdness. On boot Windows settled on 3840×2160 @ 30Hz as the recommended resolution (even though my TV is most definitely not 4k), and the IRIS control panel followed suit. I noticed some flickering every now and then, so I decided to give the NUC a break and bring it back to a less challenging resolution.

Changed Windows Display Settings to 3840×2160 @ 30Hz (no problem), then used IRIS Control Panel to do the same. So far so good. Broadcasts and recordings (all at max 1080p) look nice, and no flickering. But as soon as I rebooted the NUC, the TV reports it is back to 3840×2160 @ 30Hz (blue bar appears briefly at the bottom of the screen reporting those numbers). Rechecked Windows Display Settings (still set to 2048×1536) and IRIS Control Panel (reports 2048×1536 @50Hz).

So my question - apart from Windows Display Settings and IRIS Control Panel, is there somewhere else that the NUC gets output resolution and refresh rate info from? I can't for the life of me understand where the 3840×2160 @ 30Hz is coming from.

Your expert advice will be gratefully received,

Thanks - Mike

Obviously, I meant "Changed Windows Display Settings to 2048×1536 @ 50Hz . . " in 3rd para.

Possibly the TV just reports all resolutions above native as 4K.

Why the weird resolution? There are only 4 common resolutions for TV panels (1280x720, 1366x768, 1920x1080, 3840x2160) and 2048x1536 isn't one of them..

Thx CJK
Yeah - that's just me showing my ignorance of standard TV resolutions. Over the weekend I had a lightbulb moment and just dropped everything back to 1920x1080 @ 60 in both Windows Display Setting and IRIS Control Panel. This still looks ok and no flickering/spontaneous resolution changes yet. Interestingly, TV still reports 3840x2160 @ 30 regardless as the NUC boots up. Maybe you're right, and the TV just misreports it. It's a TCL, so menu options are very limited. I've trawled through the TV's menus, and there doesn't seem to be anywhere that resolution can be selected.
