Hey,
Back in 2021 i built my first SSF build with some help of you guys in this forum.
I ended up with a Loque Ghost S1 Mk2 (Black and copper tophat) as i love the aesthetics of it.
However, since the beginning i have had some thermal issues, or rather noise issues from the fans. GPU hitting 4000+ RPM during load.
I would seem to expect this when pushing the computer to its max, but this seems to occur in even lesser demanding games.
What i've done so far:
- Undervolting the GPU helped a lot to mitigate this from happening during even minor loads (like watching Twitch), but its still going full booster rocket in any GPU dependent game.
- Tweaked fan curves as aggressive as i can which helped fan noise during mid loads.
- Changing thermal paste = no change
Hardware:
- Ghost S1 Mk2
- - Small tophat and 2x Slim Noctua fans
- ROG Strix X570-I Gaming
- Ryzen 7 3700X
- - Cooled by Noctua NH-L12S (bent to fit case)
- Vengeance LPX Black 32GB
- Gigabyte RTX 3070 OC Eagle 8GB
- Corsair SF600
The cooling config is based on a negative pressure setup (pull from sides, exhaust on top).
Idle temps are
CPU: ~45 - 50 *C
GPU: ~ 50*C
Sound level = barely noticible
Load
CPU: 60*C
GPU: 85*C
Sound level = GF has to close the door when I game or she wont hear the TV.
It is clear it is the "inner most" GPU fan that is the loud one. Which make sense due to the sandwitch layout of the chassi and it being "back to back" with the CPU.
So to my question;
What would be your suggestion? I'm contemplating various options including;
- Trying to get my hands on a 5800X3D/5700X3D to offload the GPU a bit
- Trying to get my hands on a medium tophat to swap the exhaust slim fans for regular fans (chances are slim though)
- Swapping out the GPU for a 5000 series when they drop. Although compatability seems not to be in the Ghost S1's favor.
- Swapping case for the NCASE M2 and trying some alternative layouts, more optimized for cooling
When i built the case i was seeing others getting good thermals and sound levels in the same chassi, so i'm curious if i have "missed something".
Happy for any suggestions!
