Hello mini people!

I moved from uber-compact Commodore 64 (sigh) to regular ATX cases for a long time. Had Macs from mini to imac then turned to NUCs and now mini-ITX products - first NXZT Manta, then H1 and now in H1v2.
I am looking to see what's new, how people address some issues and limitations, and generally get some ideas for my builds.
I see a lot happening in the SFF space and I found this website which seems to have a strength in its forum (site fine on desktop but ads junkyard on mobile).

Thanks. Nice to see it's not an automated welcome message.
regarding the site:
  1. When I come across one of those those sites that has (checks cookie details) 127 vendors leeching off the data I typically back out. At least you have an option to "reject all" - so I cautiously proceed.
  2. Then - the indismissible, persistent cookie banner at the bottom if I don't accept taking a chunk of the screen. Why? I dont want "personalisation" and "tailored experience", I am a one time anonymous visitor, leave me alone.
  3. And then, out of the blue, a massive ad, that I would never conciously click in my life, taking over half the screen appears where the navbar is - the worst tactics and I fell for it - a few times.
  4. But the kicker is this - overall I only have 1/3 of screen estate to see actual content, in my first 30 seconds on the site. This kind of UX experience means I would just close the tab and forget the site altogether.
The only saving grace was the fact that the Cooj case creator posted on your forums so I persevered through the experience to read it, and only then upon realising this site isn't some link farm scam aggregator, which id did appear as such originally I decided to register. Still have my reservations but I get it - referral fees won't make themselves.

For me, first impressions matter.

just tested this myself: doesnt happen in Firefox (Android) in private mode.
but with Chrome Canary one gets drowned in this, indeed.

so not only do you get TWO cookie consent management modals / banners, but also the first ad is a HUGE overlay, not just a "normal" banner. and then from the bottom there is another OVERLAY, too.

considering at least 70% regular internet users are mobile-first these days, I agree with that concern wholeheartedly: a very bad first impression, giving off "neglected site" / "hacked site" vibes 🧐😭

To be fair, the site costs me hundreds out of my own pocket each month to keep alive, even after the minimal ad revenue. I'll look at the settings in the next few days. Might just kill ads and continue to personally eat the cost. Not easy on a supermarket wage but the world needs SFF.

The vendors are google side, we don't sell data from our side in any way.

The vignette ad was auto applied by Google late yesterday after an automated trial, I haven't had the chance to murder it yet (was exhausted after work, apologies)

I appreciate the feedback!
