News GTX 1660Ti launched - Potential new SFF Sweetspot

I just finished with Anandtech's review (https://www.anandtech.com/show/13973/nvidia-gtx-1660-ti-review-feat-evga-xc-gaming)

It does seem like this could be a nice generation us SFFPC users. The 1660ti is performing at 1070 levels with 20-30w less power draw. I'm also interested in the 2.75 slot short cooler on the EVGA unit they reviewed. I think thick+short makes the most sense for packaging in mITX cases.

I'm hoping to get 1060 levels of performance out of a 75w part (no PCIe connector needed) this generation. Last generation they had 1050ti with no PCIe connectors.

I feel like with how flexibly these GPU power limits can be set at BIOS level, a vendor can easily cook up a 75W part out of a 1660Ti (meaning with lower clocks than stock) and slap it on an LP board. It would only take the will.

This may be true...but are there any cases out there that can actually [currently] benefit from that? I can only think of 1, the Jonsbo C2. I suppose you could argue it opens up more space in any case that has 3slots anyways though.

I'm curious if any cases will design around the new >2.5slot cards and ITX, and manage to get to production before we're onto a new trend in GPUs anyways.

From a custom 1 off case perspective though, I can certainly see it.

I think those cards might be a very good candidate for cases like the S4 Mini, the 40W difference to a RTX 2060 could prove essential in builds this small.

I need a water block for that Gigabyte card. Make myself my own H20 Micro! (but brickless)

also interested in building something around the evga one, with the beefy heatsink, ripping the stock fan off and replacing it with a single 120mm might make a great sub 10L ultra quiet 1440p machine, similar layout to case fx mini but with an sfx psu

Newegg is incorrectly stating the card is 145mm, or (L x H) of 5.71" x 4.38"

seems pretty capable of trading blows with a vega56/1070 at a lower tdp. i want to see water blocks for the cards with single slot io.

Gigabyte and Asus have proper 2-slot versions which are what we need. For most gamers, this card is a wash and probably would be a pointless buy for them, but for power-saving SFF enthusiasts I welcome the 120W TDP for what is easily had in a better power/performance ratio than the 1070.

Don't forget these cards can be undervolted which would run great if you aren't using a 4K monitor.

The 1660ti really does bring a lot of performance per watt. RTX is a huge disappointment in that area IMO. I am hoping that the 1650(?) gets a low profile release from someone.

I still push people towards a used 1060 for PPW but if you MUST have a new card this is a good option. Especially the 2 slot cards @CC Ricers mentions above.

Better performance per watt, mostly. And potentially runs cooler than a 1070 Ti. Both are more crucial for SFF builds in really small cases.

Turing architecture without RT and Tensor cores is showing that TDP can be reduced so that you can get 1070-like performance with 1060's wattage.

I totally agree on pure cost vs performance. Its the PPW argument that makes these interesting IMO. I have not purchased a 'new' gpu in years. Used is where the bang for buck truly lies

If I can squeeze 1070-esque performance to my HDPlex 160w then I'll be very happy. These cards are not for 10 series owners with a lot of power headroom.

No guarantee the HDPlex 160w will drive a 1650ti, same as a 1060.
Some do, some don't. It's very hit and miss, I've had several HDPlex 160's that could not even sustain 160w, nevermind 200w peak.

If you limit your CPU to a 35w or maybe 45w variant then HDPlex 160 is enough. Anything more than that is pushing it.
