AMD's Ryzen 7 5700G and Ryzen 5 5600G APUs are now available for sale at major retailers for $359 and $259 respectively. These APUs incorporate a Zen 3 based CPU with AMD Vega based integrated GPU on a single die. Both APUs have a TDP rating of 65 watts.
The Ryzen 7 5700G features 8 Cores, 16 Threads, 8 Vega iGPU cores, a 3.8GHz base clock, and a 4.6GHz boost clock.
The Ryzen 5 5600G features 6 Cores, 12 Threads, 7 Vega iGPU Cores, a 3.9GHz base clock, and a 4.4GHz boost clock.
A key difference between these APU parts versus Zen 3 CPU parts is the amount of include cache memory. The CPU parts incorporate substantially more. Based on benchmarks performed by Gamers Nexus and Hardware Unboxed, the APUs generally performed about 10% slower than their CPU counterparts.
However, in Hardware Unboxed's 10 Game 1080P average using a dedicated RTX 3090 GPU, the Ryzen 7 5700G was 88% faster than the AMD Ryzen 5 3400G. In many cases, the 5700G is a drop-in upgrade, to the 3400G.
Personal Take: This is great news for the SFF community that can't get a GPU right now, or want to build a low power APU build. Power consumption is low which means smaller coolers like the Noctua NH-L9a can be used to cool them, and the built-in Vega graphics provide both GPU compute, and the ability to play many games at 1080P with decent settings while we wait for the GPU market to settle down.
