Would appreciate advice on my build.

CPU: i7-8086K
MB: Asus ROG Z370-I gaming
HD: 970 Pro M.2
RAM: Corsair vengeance LPX 2x16GB, probably DDR4-3200

GPU: none!

Noise: doesn’t matter

power supply: TBD - Corsair SF450 Platinum? Is Corsair or Silverstone better for low wattage and extended reliability?

CPU cooler: <=48mm - was planning to go with the 90mm liquid cooling (Asetek 545LC), but it cannot be purchased at this time. I believe I saw that Asetek is working on a new version w/6th gen pump? Any ETA?

Black Ridge appears messed up.
Cryorig C7 and NH-L9i both seem inadequate for this CPU.

CPU Options?
1. Wait for NEW Asetek 92mm option
2. 120mm liquid in GPU zone?

Extra fans planned:
1. 92mm fan in place of drive bay - Noctua NF-A9x14 PWM 4-pin
2. (opt) for MB: 120mm - Noctua NF-A12-15 PWM 4-pin slim fan

Good ref from Nanook: https://smallformfactor.net/forum/threads/dancase-a4-v2-workstation.7240/

I ran a non-k 8700 in the A4-SFX and it could never achieve full turbo boost with the L9i. The 8086K is too much CPU for the L9i.

If you don't have a GPU installed use a 120mm AIO with an A12x15 fan in the GPU section. This is the best cooling option in this case.

Here are some options:
  • Thermaltake Water 3.0
  • Corsair Hydro Series H55
  • NZXT Kraken M22

For the PSU the Corsair SF450 Gold is more than enough.

Then you have to create a custom bracket. It will not fit with the default one, because it is too close to the front.

I am running a delidded 8700k overclocked to 5ghz with Corsair H60 which is a 120mm AIO. Temps are about about 50° under normal load and top out at ~78° under stress test. I use MSI 1070 itx video card, which fits perfectly next to H60.

The only down side is m.2 nvme drives running hot. I have a 500gb 970evo on the bottom side of z390i and 2tb 970evo on the cpu side. Just installed a heatsink with a tiny fan for the 2tb one and it lowers the temp by 5-10° but it still tops out at about 73° when copying large files .

I might try a 40mm Notua fan. Just don't know how I'd mount it... yet.

Install a 92mm fan under the board to get better backside SSD temps
