I did this a few year back DIY on my TV when Phillips came out with Ambilight. Just fixed some warm white LED strips behind the TV and I found it quite pleasing.

I am thinking of using it on my monitor. I think I will just order the Antec kit From Newegg as this should be the least work approach.
Looks like this is a rare experience of anyone here. Maybe I can give a review later when I have accumulated enough actual usage hours.
