Power Supply 1080Ti with a 500W PSU?

Hi,
Just got a good deal on a 1080Ti, but after buying it realised I only have a 500W PSU, so was wondering if it will be suitable still? Its the Asus 1080Ti Turbo

I have a DAN case, and my CPU is an i7-8700K (not overclocked)

The 1080 Ti targets about 290W reaches 360W for short periods of time and and the 8700K reaches 160W without overclock. You are toeing the line with an 500W. Even for SFX only, 650W is readily available nad 700W is shipping soon. Even the common 6t00W would be much better.

Don't know if it matters, but my 1080Ti is the ASUS TURBO, which is a reference design, no factory OC etc.

Also ,just used PC Part picker, and it thinks my complete system draws 379W?!

The official power of the 1080 Ti is 250W and the 8700K is said to have a TDP of 95W. MSI Gaming X has a custom PCB & VRMs, it's power hungry in comparison to the reference based Asus Turbo. I think OP will be fine with 500W, at stock clocks the whole system will consume about 400W in typical gaming loads. There might be some problems while doing Prime95 AVX and 3Dmark Timespy GPU tests at the same time but that isn't a common situation for anyone.

As a couple others have said, you should be fine, but 600W would be adviseable.

I have a 1080ti with a 5.2 GHz OC 8086k on a Corsair SF600 and I have more than enough headroom.

I'll have to see what my total power draw is from my UPS and report back.

With no OC, I think it would be ok. You could also set power limits on the cpu and GPU as well if you are worried about it.

Thanks guys! I do plan on getting a Corsair SF600W Platinum in a month or so, but just wanted to check id be ok in the short term :-)

Just finished testing. I highly recommend the SF600. I set the 8086K to 5GHz 1.40v and I maxed out at 420 watts running some GTA V for about ten minutes in single player. Super short sample time, I know, but should give you an idea. I averaged about 395 watts.

I set the 8086K to 5.2 Ghz at 1.45v and I drew around 458 watts at the highest. About 415 watts on average during the same duration.

Your results may vary. If you under volt the CPU and reduce power target on GPU to like 90-95%, you can play on that 500 watt PSU in the meantime.
