There is a guide somewhere that shows you how to remove the DVI using only scissors and some persistence. I haven't gotten around to taking that route though because I value my warranty.

You should also try undervolting your card. I keep my 1080 mini in my nose 202 in horizontal mode. It went from 84 C to 76 C when I reduced the power limit to it's stock clock.
