Accessory Wi Fi antennas

Has anyone ever used or researched flat patch antennas? An example antenna.

It is for a case with no I/O ports. The idea was to use this behind a wood panel.

Any insight into how they compare with the normal ones that come with your motherboard?

[Curiosity]

I tried some, and for me they didn't work great. Not as well as my stubby right angle ones I was using before.

I'd like to try them again sometime since I have a better router now, but I dunno.

Unfortunately I don't have any tests or data collected to back this up.
