Enclosure What's the point of closed top panel in a case?

Hi all.

I was looking at the Thermaltake Core V1, and I asked myself: considering hot air is moving upward, why not use mesh grid instead of plexiglass as it prevent heat to naturally escape?

Am I worrying for no reason? Is thee any rational for using a plain panel like this without any holes for heat dissipation at the top?

For the looks.
Doesn't matter that heat rises, the air is moved around by the fans instead.

Mesh on the top panel is the best way to collect dust during those hours the PC stays turned off.

And during those other hours where it stays turned on too.

Aesthetic, really.

Also, yes naturally hot air moves upward. But this becomes negligible when you introduce fans into the system, as the fans will drive most of the air toward whichever direction they blow.

most mainstream cases these days focus on looks rather than performance.

same with all the rgb fans ever created out there, i've tried them all. asthetics before performance, and this is what the market demands. people just love them

I'd say :

• Dust can accumulate when fans are OFF
• Dropped liquids can find their way through fan cuts
• Natural convection is negligible with front / rear fans

They want you to buy fans, too. Fanless cooling is uncool, profit wise.
