Thanks to @GuilleAcoustic from a while back informing me about these SMPS (here). I don't know how new these following ones are but they are too cool not to share. Their dimensions are so small and many come in 12V although not as many in 19V. They are pricey as most are for medical purposes, highly efficient, and most are operational at lower Wattages (about half rated?) without fan cooling.

Artesyn CPS250-M Series 250W 12-24-48V 33x51x102=170ml

Bel Power Solutions 784-ABC275 275W 19x76x127=180ml (very low profile!)

CUI VMS-300A-12 300W 12V 29x76x127=280ml
(bonus with CUI is they provide great 3D models, in any file format you could want, even Sketchup, directly on their website)

Mean Well EPP-300-12 300W 12V 94%eff 35x76x127=340ml (55eur)
Mean Well EPP-400-12 400W 12V 94%eff 35x76x127=340ml (65eur)

Anyone know of any other special mentions I'll be glad to add them to this list.

This one looks like it would power pretty much anything with a single GPU and fit in a 4x4x1.63 (internal or external) enclosure with a 10mm by 100mm fan Thing is, has anyone ever worked with an Artesyn PSU before? Any good?

Just for grins, I looked up the dimensions a dual Adaptec "Brick"...

Dual Adaptec 1.29 liters 384w (2 sets of wires )
"Combined Unit" of 2 Artesyns + fan .42 liters 500w (1 set of wires)

more power + @ a third the volume? Hmm
The drawback I can see from here already though is one is looking at 2x $88.64 plus fan and fabrication to get one working.

Had to check, Compared to an SFX, roughly half the size also.. lol

On the other hand, a 400w rig could be built from 2 of the EPP-200-12 same fan, same footprint for about $90, Looks like

Kmpkt, Agreed. With some of the pico's, especially the G-Unique and it's custom wires, it makes 12v look pretty good. At least to me :-)

Yeah, I agree. In my mind, 12V AC-DC at high efficiency is kind of the holy grail of SFF power supplies as it crushes 19V by not needing two sets of voltage conversions and having a much smaller DC-DC unit. A couple of companies, most notably Transphorm USA, have demonstrated GAN based boards that run 95%+ efficiency at 12V and require very minimal cooling. I've tried contacting a few of these companies, but with relatively little success.

I'll be soon experimenting a system with two Meanwell EPP-400-12, one to power the system, the other powering two GPUs.
The GPU-dedicated Meanwell unit will be triggered by the first one thanks to a custom mosfet board, to avoid feeding +12V to both GPUs when the system is OFF.

How'd that go?

I made some tests using

- an EPP-300-12 coupled with a G-Unique powering the system,
- en EPP-400-12 coupled with a custom load switch for both GPUs.

The load switch I had made is working as intended. No +12V fed to the GPU when the system is OFF.

However, each time after shutting down the computer, all the fans and pump, plugged to the G-Unique, would continue to run on at full tilt. GPU blower as also also running.

It only happend after shutting down the computer. It didn't happen prior to starting the computer.

I guess the G-Unique and my load switch are not compatible... After a couple of CMOS resets, I did not try to investigate further more and went back to the usual Corsair SF600....

Some possible explanation from the load switch designer :

Just had an idea what may be wrong with your G-Unique combo...
They use an n-fet to turn off 12V, maybe they dont disconnect the 12V line but instead the whole GND. (Otherwise they would need a driver circuitry for that fet) If you now have ground connected though your load switch the unit wont shut down.

Below a first test with just one Meanwell EPP-400-12 for the whole system.

I wish it worked !

This setup was originally intended for my bifurcated build.

Good news : power consumption is pretty low.
Only 340W when rendering with both GPUs and OCCT on the i7 6700K. Gaming consumption shoud be the same as I do not plan to SLI (nor do I plan to game :)

It gives me the opportunity to downsize the build from 14.5 to 10.8L, this time using an HDPLEX 400 driven by a Meanwell EPP-400-24.
Larry confirmed me that two of his clients are using a Meanwell too ; he did not get any report on the 400W DCATX not being able to shut down.

Yes, the system worked perfectly, expect for that shutdown issue.

It may be a different story with a PicoPSU-160-XT but it's going to be a bit light to support an i7 6700K together with a pump, fans and 75W of PCIe slot power.

Sorry, changed my question after I found out that you had tried the EPP-400-24 with the hdplex 400w dc-atx :) Didn't think you'd see it so soon.

I did not try yet !
Just got the confirmation from Larry yesterday that some of his customers run the Meanwell / HDPLEX 400W combo without any issues.

@Kmpkt did you have the opportunity to try your Dynamo with a Meanwell 24V PSU ?
