Anyone ever looked at making a SFF build with an nMedia HTPC 1800B? Dimensions are 17"(W) x 2.36"(H) x 9.06”(D) or 431.8mm x 59.9mm x 230.1mm or 5.95L. It looks to fit an ITX MB, a FlexATX PSU, and a DVD Drive (or perhaps a GPU with some modding/ flexible riser cable). Never mind if you used an HDPLex 250W. Made of 1mm steel with an acrylic front plate. Has a 5.25" bay on the front (which some people have converted to a SlimODD/3.5" combo unit) and a crappy LCD display that only displays one thing (ugh, talk about cutting corners). It is a pretty unique case that looks like it will also barely fit in he bottom half of a Pelican 1490 case.. hrm...

Costs $50 from Newegg, 4 stars. Quite a few faults but looks promising.

eBay Listing (different detailed pics)

Manual (lol that CD drive)

I wish there were more cases with this sort of HxWxL setup.

If you can handle more height, the Silverstone ML05/06/09 cases are about 350x100x205mm. They also offer a thin mITX case (PT12) that is 410x52x261mm.

Ideal height for me would be internal of 64-65mm. Any higher and you're wasting height above an SFX PSU, much lower and you are picking between FlexATX and HDPlex 250.

I've actually been eyeing these $22-23 1.5U ventilated external enclosures off eBay from Thailand. They are just a little too short, and a little close to the 170mm needed for a Mini-ITX board but they already have great ventilation and are made of aluminum, so would be easy to machine/dremel out ports... available in:

1.5U x 178D x 203W
1.5U x 178D x 305W
1.5U x 279D x 203W
2U x 178D x 203W
2U x 178D x 305W
2U x 279D x 305W
3U x 178D x 305W
3U x 279D x 203W
4U x 178D x 305W
4U x 279D x 305W
4U x 279D x 432W
5U x 279D x 305W
5U x 279D x 432W

(where 1U = 44.45)

Le sigh!

Nice find on those 1.5U enclosures. It looks like they come in all sorts of dimensions as well. Are you going to go for it?!

I am unsure. I am on deployment so my tool options are limited. Also need to do some more measuring and see if I could fit a GPU in there.. It does seem promising to mount the mobo stand offs to the included, adjustable rails - could probably rig up some 2.5" HDD brackets and maybe some GPU brackets off some of these (maybe need a larger case). I really like that they apparently only need 4 screws to assemble/disassemble. I wonder what MOQ they'd need to do a custom run? For $45 including shipping I am tempted to get one just to mess around with!

If anyone else wants to give it a shot by all means, though.

Ordered the aluminum 1.5U x 178D x 305W case off Amazon. Initially I was unable to have it shipped to my FPO box. I contacted the seller over Amazon and he changed the shipping settings so I could order. After I ordered he e-mailed me and let me know he had upgraded the shipping to small package airmail because he was worried about it taking a long time to arrive (this is after I mentioned that I didn't care how long shipping took in an earlier email exchange) -- pretty nice guy.

I will attempt to transplant my current build once the case arrives, will be seat of my pants flying from here!
