Thanks for the explanation! It's always interesting to get a look into the methods (and tools) used by people who do interesting work. As for the cost, that was roughly as expected Given what prices I've come across for thick metal plate stock for laser cutting and similar, just the metal alone seems to be a rather significant cost, let alone getting it cut or getting access to the tools necessary. I think all of us in here have an understanding for over-spending on our hobbies, though
