So I have a i5 8600k I want to lower the tdp I thought the only way to do this was to lower the voltage and clockspeed but there's an option in my gigabyte matx motherboard that says max tdp if I lowered it to say 35 watts to match a i5 8600t would it downclock itself or would it not get enough power and wouldn't boot up if anyone's knows more about this let me know

It won't clock as high, AMD has been doing this since Kaveri in 2015(?) - it just reduces boost clock and probably for 35w it will reduce the base clock and voltages itself. I found the i5 4690k runs around 50w at 3.5ghz so I assume the 8600k should be capable of running around 3-3.5ghz at 35w.
