I'm trying to find something like that.. I'd like to throw an older i5 into it with a gt1030 gpu... I have a special case in mind, but I'm having a hell of a time finding one....

Any Suggestions?

You won't find anything smaller than ITX for a s1150 CPU; mini STX is socket 1151 (Skylake) and newer.
Thin ITX boards will save you vertical height, but have a 1x (rarely a 4x) PCIe slot, if at all. None of this is going to be helpful for GPU bandwidth, even on a GT1030.
Any H81/B85/H87 ITX board will be fine with the i5, you will only need a Z87Z97 if it's a K CPU that you can overclock.
If you want to make it smaller, you could use a specialist PSU (e.g. Laptop brick + 'Pico PSU' style DC converter) smaller than an SFX / Flex ATX / TFX PSU, but it will cost more.
An Asus Q87T would do the trick with PCIe 4x slot and a suitable brick. You will need SODIMM Laptop RAM for this like all thin ITX options, and it may be expensive (ones on ebay UK are for example)

Right here in the forum FS thread : https://smallformfactor.net/forum/threads/asus-z97i-plus-motherboard-cpu-cooler-and-8gb-ram.5859/

Product Page: https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/Z97IPLUS/

I own this board and it is a nice LGA 1150 package for sff. WiFi/BT, m.2 slot on the rear ,3 fan headers if needed, excellent bios and wide cpu support and more. I run a 45w Xeon in mine for example.

I have run it with a 1050ti or 750ti and the mini box pico 160xt and 192w brick. With no issues. A 1030 and any 1150 i5 should be easily doable on that or the HDPLEX 160 direct plug. The build in my Avatar in fact.

If you are going for a budget build then as @Arboreal mentioned go with the H81/H87/B85.

I have this one: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod...6195&cm_re=h81_itx-_-9SIAD7H5EX6195-_-Product
In my Daughter's pc and it has been great for 2 years strong. Ignore the price shown! It was 54 USD brand new when I purchased it directly from New Egg back then.

Just a couple of examples that I can vouch for from personal experience.

Good Luck!
