I am neither a programmer nor a software expert of any kind but i also started to get serious with Linux about a year ago, after my first rather unsuccessful attempts very long ago. Just recently tried out cachyOS.
I am still contemplating what Distro I should use on my new Strix Halo system. I might give CachyOS a try there too but if rocm etc support there should give me any troubles I'll probably default back to Ubuntu which is officially supported for most of these things.

I guess I am currently a bit distro hopping on my 2019 laptop, where I can play around. After a quick test of CachyOS I think I'll try out openSUSE Tumbleweed. Suse Linux back in the days was my first exposure to Linux... where I struggled and ultimately failed to even get into a graphical desktop environment 
Fleeting exposure to live Ubuntu was the first time Linux actually worked for me.
I have to say that the License Agreement of openSUSE is a bit of downturner ...
