Guys I've been debating getting rid of all my PC equipment to get I to the fpvquad scene. I need help being talked out of it unless some of you think it'd be a good idea. My time for gaming is very limited these days and I don't get out of the house much so it could be beneficial but meh.

Getting rid of everything sounds a tad rash to me. Keep one appropriate PC that will meet your needs and get rid of the rest IMO. If that doesn't give you enough cash to get an FPV quadcopter, then be patient and save.

Dude, you can build your own for about $100 :) I'll find some videos and upload them later. Don't worry about getting rid of everything, just keep what matters.

I recommend you sit on this idea for a month or two. If you still feel just as excited and committed to it by then, it might be something you take seriously.

In this moment, the idea of getting rid of your PC equipment might seem exciting, because you're really interested in something new. The problem is that your enthusiasm and excitement won't necessarily last very long. Once you sell up and get the FPV quadcopter, you might find it isn't as interesting now that it is a reality, and you will feel regret.

I speak from experience. In my teens, I routinely convinced myself it was a good idea to sell my laptop, my phone, my gaming consoles, or anything of value, to put into something new. I'd make up all these reasons in my head to try and justify selling things I shouldn't have. I often regretted doing it, and in the end I had to get a job to replace some of the things I had lost. It felt good when I was caught up in the hype of the moment, but once I bought whatever it is I wanted, I would get bored with it and end up selling it on.

Last year I bought a KORG LP-380-73 digital piano. I had been wanting a digital piano for about 5 years. I was finally in a position where I had saved enough and could buy one. However, I'm not cash rich, so there is always somewhere more practical the money could have gone, and I knew it was a lot to spend at once. Because I had waited to do this for half a decade with unwavering enthusiasm, I knew that it would be money well spent. As it happens, it has been one of the most satisfying and fulfilling purchases I've ever made. What is the point of this? There is a difference between what you think you want now, and what you will enjoy in the long term.

Yeah, I know which is why I'm looking into it more and more, I've kinda grown detached from gaming which is the only real reason I have a pc to begin with my patience has grown thin I really just want to find a hobby I enjoy more so I can go out and spend more time with the kids outside of the house theyre still young. The main reason I'm wanting into the hobby is for video photography purposes, Ive always been into video photography but It was something I knew I couldn't afford now that theres good 1080p cameras not so expensive for the purposes of what I'm wanting to do its something I feel like might be money well spent. but youre right on the sitting on it for a bit which is what I plan on doing I'm not going to buy anything to begin with until after I feel comfortable in a simulator anyways

well, if you have kids that are small, i would focus 110% on them. After some years you will regret not spent much time with them. The first years of kids will be those they remember the whole life. Give them some experiences with you, this is VERY important.

i can remember every thing my parents did with us as we were kids (roughly to the age of 10 it was most interesting experiences, hikes, travels, camping..)
My nieces told me some months ago that i am the better uncle and the other one is a shitty one.
I asked why and they told me that i am doing activities with them. But to be serious, to me, i did not do a lot of stuff with them, (playing a few times football, going to zoo...)
but they see even those few times as something very special, so you see..

In your position i would sell the pc and begin to make plans for every day to make something with the kids. in a few years you can still come back to PC and there will be better stuff anyways as times go by.

That mic drop though.

He's right though. It's far more important.

I totally agree with both of you, that's why I've been debating a change in hobby. Because not only does it give me a chance to go out and experience new places and things with them but it will allow me to also do something that I've always loved photography.

Another tech based parenting tip - unless you absolutely need to have your smartphone, swap to a dumb phone at least part of the time. I traded in my iPhone 6 Plus for a BlackBerry Curve and have been a vastly less distracted parent as a result. Browsing the internet is so subpar it isn't even worth it, and there is no software support for the bulk of other time wasters (Twitter, Facebook, etc.). Because of the built in keyboard, it's still a reasonable device to text on unlike a lot of dumb phones with only a num pad. I feel incredibly liberated both as an individual and a parent through making this choice while still being reachable for more necessary stuff.

Yeah I don't really sit on the phone much it's mostly in my pocket unless the kids are sucked into the TV or their games. Our 5 year old is obsessed with Minecraft and sadly we don't even know what started the interest or where she had heard it from because she just started school this year and was playing it before that. And neither me or my wife had ever played Minecraft. Lol

Thats just how minecraft is. Kids learn about it just by seeing a computer or a phone nowadays. Just be happy it isnt Roblox where parental guidance is needed 24/7 because of the horrendous maps that kids make (giant genitalia, kill yourself simulators, etc...).

O.O
Seriously?! WTF that's super inappropriate. How can the game even allow that?

You should do some photo hikes with the kids. Get some photos of them outside as well as maybe get them to appreciate the outdoors. Hopefully there are some parks near you. I'd also recommend sitting on things for a bit. I've also started thinking about going into the fpvquad hobby and got a nice Taranis to just try out on the simulators. I personally plan on getting a small indoor quadcopter to get used to things before fully commit to the hobby and the larger outdoors quads.

The game is f2p and uses LUA scripting which oddly enough is easy for younger kids to pick up if they really want to make something in the game that they dont have access to with the Roblox engine or no one has made it. I have kids (6 yo to 14 yo) that come to my lan center who write mods for their custom maps in 20 mins and upload them to the Roblox marketplace for other people to use. Ive seen everything from simple objects to cars to full fledged simulators and 1:1 replica builds with actual functionality (elevators, escalators, vending machines) as well as my fair share of KYS simulators and pornographic custom maps.

We blacklist terms here on the games, but if someone really wanted to get around it they just need to unlink our accounts and link their own. Which some do, but most dont.
