A customer at work got a couple of these and tried running them off the motherboard fan headers

Needless to say it didn't turn out so well and the customer let us have the fans. So we had them laying around the shop and one day we were bored and tried sticking a few of these to a battery backup along with some caster wheels (gotta love strong double-sided tape) and it actually was able to propel itself across the floor :D

Can you imagine 7 of them at full blast? I had a customer that need to dissipate 3000W of heat in a 3U rack.

I had a Vantec Tornado 92x38mm fan long, long ago, it was basically a Delta QFR type fan with a similar 1A draw on 12V and 7000rpm. It didn't need wheels to propel itself, a smooth surface was enough o_O

We have a 4 servers in the rack at work, with 40mm and 80mm versions of those Delta fans. Without the A/C on we could hear these at the end of the hall with two closed doors in between. If you need these fans, you either did it wrong or noise is not any concern.

Sounds like a sheet of wood and a rubber skirt away from a personal compact hovercraft.
