It might well be really dumb (I don't know any better, one way or the other) but could it be done? Are heatpipes filled with any black magic juju that would escape into the world? Has anyone done this?

Maybe use 2 80mm low profile fans in place of stock?

Yes. You don't want the pipes open at all.

Cutting fins a little is ok, but cutting that heatpipe could make temps go up enough to cripple the card and have bad thermal throttling. I'm guessing the card already throttles, so you really don't want to make it worse. Why do you want to do this so bad?

I wouldn't advise this mod personally. Linus ruined the first 1080 Mini he modded for the S4 mini trying to do exactly this. Also I believe the "black magic juju" in some pipes is toxic to humans as it can contain mercury. Unless you know it is distilled water or some other non-toxic coolant inside, you're definitely rolling the dice
