Ever since I have gotten a 6800XT SAPPHIRE PULSE, I've been experiencing some power issues with my SFF desktop:

  • CPU power cable completely melted on PSU side leaving it's cable and port unusable
  • You may also notice some plastic residue on other ports.
  • Backup CPU power cable plastic melted on the PSU side
  • GPU power plastic cable melting on the GPU side [3,4]

  • Constant computer resets upon heavy power usage
As I've come to learn however, I've been daisy chaining my GPU power cable, which is not reccomended for a 300W card, explaining the melting on the GPU side; but as for the CPU side, and the resets, I am completely not sure which part to replace. I'd really appreciate the help. Pictures provided below.

Specs:
PSU: CoolerMaster V850v2 SFX
Mobo: AORUS Z690i ULTRA LITE DDR4
RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX
CPU: i5-13600k

All of these issues except for the sudden complete melting of the primary CPU power cable of the PSU are all gradual, i've only noticed these issues over time.

Additionally, the fan of the PSU has had some motor issues, and shipping is *extremely* expensive, so i replaced the fan with a noctua fan, voiding warranty.

Thanks.

You're replacing the PSU no matter what. I've not read good things about CoolerMaster's units here and there. Saying much more gets into Speculation Time, and would really need a tear-down and inspection of the PCBs to say anything other than speculation.

CPUs and motherboards are generally built to last....so I'd sooner guess the EPS cable failing is a result of whatever triggered the GPU cable melt.

You already melted it, which means there's a short. Don't boot it or you may damage anything that might still work....or worse, burn your house down. Electrical fires are no joke--and you have ground faults in that PSU somewhere already that the thing didn't brick itself to stop.

forgot to mention: the cpu and gpu are still perfectly usable, gpu was running for months (but not sure if it is related to the resets problem, sometimes the gpu just completely blacks out and the system freezes and the drivers error out) and the motherboard also was working

i will attempt to RMA the gpu but as for the motherboard im not sure, it looks fine
