SFF.Network AMD’s AM4 to Receive One Last Hurrah in the Form of the Ryzen 5 5600X3D

With AM5 firmly entrenched, it seems odd for AMD to consider launching a new processor for the now defunct AM4 platform – but VideoCardz reports that AMD is readying the Ryzen 5 5600X3D, a 6 core, 12 thread unit based on the same “Vermeer” platform as the 5800X3D.
While it may seem an odd business decision, this could make sense in being able to sell slightly faulty 5800X3D inventory – where one or two cores are substandard. We’ve seen this many times in the past, most famously in the Phenom II days – although this reasoning is entirely speculation on my part.
The Ryzen 5 5600X3D is set to have the same last-level cache config as it’s bigger sibling – being 96MB, made up of 32MB of L3 cache and 64MB of X3D cache. It is however missing 1MB of L2 cache. Clocks are spec’d at 3.3GHz base, 4.4GHz boost, and as mentioned above, the processor will be a 6 core, 12 thread unit.

I just got lucky and found a 5800X3D for around $250. I'm hoping that gets me through another GPU upgrade.

I think a 5600X3D would be a good upgrade for a lot of existing systems, and especially SFF builds if it gets you close to 5800X3D performance for gaming but with lower power consumption and cooling requirements, although I doubt we'll see the 3D cache on a 65W TDP processor until we get to 3nm.

That's amazing, 4 gens of Ryzen available on a gen 1 board! I doubt we'll see that happen again.

Any chance this would be 65w? I’m upgrading my 2400g apu build to the 5th gen ryzen with rtx a2000. Having a 65w 3D cpu would be great actually.

That's amazing, 4 gens of Ryzen available on a gen 1 board! I doubt we'll see that happen again.

One can only hope, I doubt AM5 will do it. From what I've seen, AM5 boards are already kinda... not great, at least for the first round.

I don't think so, I'm sure the chart on the GN video had it at 105W. Apparently they're 'failed' 5800X3Ds and available in limited numbers as they're recovered units not specially made.
Steve went on to say that they will only be sold for a few months by Microcenter in the USA.

You'll see reviews for these on 6 July. Microcenter launch is 7 July and it looks like you can only get them in store.

I'd guess this won't be worth scalers jumping on and selling online, as once you put any reasonable markup on the 5600X3D, you'll be close to a 5800X3D.

Given the limited availability, I think most people will have to wait and get a 5800X3D on sale on Amazon Prime Day or Black Friday instead.
