so a while back, when I needed to get angry enough to continue through a homework assignment, I was watching Apple ads. Specifically the iPad Pro one. what came across to me is that it's similar to a MacBook Pro: probably most buyers are just buying it because it has "Pro" in the name.

my key complaints are the following, which I set out to resolve in my own concept design:

  • bezel reduction is almost pointless
  • iOS is still nowhere as useful as a desktop OS
  • ARM-based CPUs would be out of the question with above
  • $1000 for essentially a watered-down Eve V (excluding accessories)
  • lack of "pro" ports
so here's what I came up with.
- the "extra thicc" bezel on one side is designed to optimize one-handed use. you grab onto that bezel with your non-dominant hand and then draw/tap with other hand. the fingerprint sensor is centered so you can reach it with both thumbs.
- that bezel also includes a capacitive strip for one-handed control schemes and actually decent functions like zoom in, scroll, color change, etc.
- usb ports built into front for maximum usability as a tablet and as an on-desk device
- device can easily be held in portrait mode using other bezel with usb ports.
- device can be flipped around such that the camera (represented by black blob) points up, further facilitated by below
- rear kickstand has more than 90 degrees of motion so the device can be used with kickstand with camera facing up or down.
- 3:2 aspect ratio screen for kicks.

This is a pcb mount, horizontal usb type A socket dimensions.

Your ideal tablet is at least 11 mm thicc.

And what's wrong with ARM cpus?

ARM CPU's have little support for "Pro" applications. And windows is severely limited by them, imho.

hey, what if I like my devices to be thicc and well built?

also, "ideal" is a strong word...
