Thanks! I'm not the only one to do it for sure, I've seen this mod done a couple times over reddit and youtube, but I thought of it before I saw anyone do it, it just took so much time for parts to arrive from AliExpress, and i had to do it in a few phases, hahaha!
There's actually a bit more...
Yeah, I had planned on using at least 6 pins, but ended up being able to only pass through 4 wires. The idea was to be able to use more than a pair of wire to pass through the current. You're saying 5A? That seems so little! I'll have to monitor the connector's temperature under load.
I didn't...
Indeed!!
I finally posted my build, so if you want to see an example of how I took care of this, take a look at my thread! https://smallformfactor.net/forum/threads/is-it-an-xbox-series-s-no-its-a-4-19l-modded-k29-pc-lots-of-pics.18464/
So, as I was saying in my other build post, I already put my black modded Goodisory A02 case on my shelves and started working on my new love, the K29 I ordered from Amazon for like 67$CAD a while ago, quite the steal for such steel! Even though the modded acrylic panel was like too perfect on...
Yeah, I added those myself. My soldering skills are still very iffy, but with the free vias, it was relatively easy to do.
As for the version of the thing, when I ordered (from a different seller than the link given, but this seller offers free returns, so I regretted not purchasing through...
I think I've mentioned it in one of my posts about this unit, but I'm ahead of you guys, lol, YES you can add any kind of 12V wires you want from those empty holes. They're all 12v+ and 12v- lines.
This unit is very easy to mod. Depending on versions, you can see some are modified for...
Nice! Happy to hear! Quite the economical solution compared to the mini-box one too, right?!
My new build is using this guy too, and I haven't had a single problem with it so far, even after modifying it like a noob, lol! I actually have 3 units, so if I feel like doing another version/mod, or...
I'm very curious as to whether or not this unit worked well for you?! I've migrated my main build to this unit with the largest Mean Well 12V external power brick (the 330w model, finally bit the bullet and bought one) and it's been working like a champ so far. Was even able to withstand both a...
Soooooooooo........ This build is already back on my shelves, and I've switched to my new toy, the K29 that's even smaller and required me to do a bit more modding to fit my GPU, but I'm happy how this turned out. I'm waiting for an aviation connector to complete it. I'll post in its own thread...
I wonder, I read you guys saying that the stock paste is crap, so is it worth it to repaste the stock thermal paste if I don't intend on modifying it otherwise?
Really loving the design overall! Coming together really nicely!
Though if I had to make one criticism, and it's one that ends up being true for so many SFF designs, is that I don't find the compromise of needing to use slim fans worth it. Like you said, the choice of slim fans is very...
Thank you!!!
I thought about and considered it a lot, but the problem is the original panels' ventilation holes pattern would make it look really bad, and some pieces of the panel would just fall apart, like between the 2 top fans, so I settled on the acrylic look, I find it still looks VERY...
