CRYORIG goes SFF with the Taku and the Ola

For Computex 2016, CRYORIG revealed their first foray into PC cases with two new projects.

First up, the CRYORIG OLA is a Mac Pro inspired cylindrical HTPC/ ‘lifestyle’ ITX PC case (‘Trashcan’ form factor as they unfortunately have come to be known.. Thanks Apple..) with a focus on performance and cooling.

CRYORIG seems to want the OLA to be a ‘designer’ system – a centrepiece in a home theatre setup. However, they have also ensured that it’s not form over function, with support for full length graphics cards (no specifics as to what defines full length unfortunately), and a 140mm exhaust fan to ensure things don’t get too toasty. Focused ‘gill-like’ air intakes direct air to hotspots like the CPU and GPU, ensuring up to 100w CPUs and high-end GPUs can be cooled. The cooling design has been compartmentalised to ensure hotter components don’t share hot air, preventing thermal overruns.

The front and rear panels are easily replaceable, and CRYORIG appears to intend to sell multiple texture options for customising your own OLA. The OLA is still work in progress with the release targeting Q2 of 2017. Full specifications are to be announced once designs are finalised.

The CRYORIG TAKU is a monitor stand PC case (which we haven’t seen many of as of late unfortunately) that focuses on maximizing desk space while enabling a slide-open tray for easy access to hardware. The chassis is made from 3mm aluminium, with a brushed finish in the prototype.

The TAKU features slots in the top to ensure cable management for USB and other accessory cords are kept tidy. The chassis supports GPUs up to 250mm long and drive bays for a 3.5” and a 2.5” device or two 2.5” devices. In addition to the full aluminum frame, the TAKU also mixes in solid wood legs at the base for contrasting materials. Like the OLA the TAKU is also still a work in progress with targeted release dates in late 2016 or Q1 2017.
