I agree with what's been said. I haven't been paying as much attention because I'm waiting for the air version but I've seen other cases where the display cable compatibility is an added headache. I see dedicated ports being needed only when standard cable parts don't fit in the bottom. Once parts are plugged, they rarely need swapping. If I did need to, between io being under and in the back, it's still a minor pain to access anything that isn't front/top. I have usb ports on my monitor that serve that purpose of easy plug and unplug because it's easier to access than a rear io. I would treat the rear and back ports that same as plug it in and don't touch it so IMO just a cut out for pass through works for me with a bonus of reducing cost (I don't know how much) and no real loss in my use case.
