The further testing was I borrowed a Samsung SM951 and installed a GTX 980 in the bottom slot and checked both to see how many lanes they were running at and it worked. That SM951 I used is not the normal ones people have been buying though, it's from a Lenovo laptop and is an AHCI PCIe 2.0 x4 drive. Also I tested using the original 1.00 BIOS version.I don't have a PCIe 3.0 x4 M.2 drive to check but I can update the BIOS on my board tomorrow and see if it still works with that SM951.
