ServeTheHome did in-depth analysis on this.

Essentially, the (purported) Chinese hackers may have gotten into the Baseboard Mangement Controller (BMC). The BMC isn't the OS or any of the data (presumably), so while it is a big hack (servers can be turned off/on, etc.), it isn't as important as Bloomberg makes it out to be.

Also, the U.S. Government uses Supermicro servers. If this vulnerability did exist, presumably the government would know about it, and so they would immediately pull those servers. But no, they are still in use.

SuperMicro also has a line of Xeon D series motherboards in mITX form factor with full size RAM slots, 10G ethernet, and M.2.

The purported 'compromised' boards were for server farms, for specific bulk purchases. Not all boards, not consumer boards.

el01: AMD Radeon Pro WX4100 in a Lone L1. Maybe I should do a build thread? The onboard gfx are pretty nice as well.

Ultimately, this X11SDV-16C+-TLN2F looks like a great server board (16c/32t Xeon D-2183IT 100W SoC, 4x DIMM up to 512GB, oculink connector, PCIe-8x with opened back, 2x 10GBase-T, 12V DC version available)
