Indeed. Forming is a completely different experience. You have to be quick and precise at the same time. There is no really easy way of doing it, and as you've mentioned, a fair bit of it is done by hand. I would say I would be interested in principal, but the practical side of me says my free time is somewhat lacking. Let me consider the logistics for a bit.
