I have a 2990wx and the msi meg creation. Im not in to overcloking so I just want to choose a simple xmp profile and have stable ram at the highest possible speed. Which 8x8(64gb) gskill kit(flare x or trident z) can you guys recommend me that can achieve this without problems? My target is to have 64gb ram at 2933-3000 or 3200mhz max if possible.

I just get nervous when I read all those timings and stuff and have no idea which is the right for me.

Cheers

I would check the QVL first to see which is the highest.
Hello,and thank you.
Please be patient with me hehe.

So,on the msi qvl list I did found this kit 8x8 at 3200mhz
https://gskill.com/en/product/f4-3200c14q2-64gtzsw

I'm not sure how qvl works, but I suspect these are the ram kits that they have in their test labs as they don't have every kit that is outhere.
As you can see,the 8x8 ram I listed is on the msi qvl list, but on gskills page it is only on x299 qvl list..So I suspect its the same situation with gskill too.Cant own all motherboards to test?

I have 3 questions if you or someone else with time can help with.

-Since the 8x8 ram I showed is ¨¨advertised¨¨as 3200,that means there is a good chance to have it xmp stable to lets say 3000?(I'm not greedy for 3200 but will take it if possible)

-I saw the same kit but composed of 4x16gb.I remember reading somewhere that having only 4 ram slots occupied from the total 8 loud render the threadripper in to more ¨¨snappy performance¨¨.Any truth to that or the difference is small?

-I saw some other kits on gskills site that show flare x kits for amd and trident z for amd like these ones
https://gskill.com/en/product/f4-3200c14q-32gtzrx
https://gskill.com/en/product/f4-2933c14q2-64gtzrx

Even if not on the qvl list, do you guys think they shoud be more appropriate to achive the advertised xpm speed or they are at the same level as the first 8x8 kit I showed?

If you want to make sure you get as close to 100% compatibility as possible, I'd go with the kit in the QVL as it has been tested to work at advertised speeds, anything else is user's luck.

The AMD kits you listed are made better compatibility for Ryzen, not ThreadRipper, so I'm not sure about that. I'd stick with QVL kits.

You will get the same performance from 4*16 and 8*8, but you will have a higher chance of getting your XMP setting of 3200 with 4*16 because the memory controller only has 4 DIMMs to distribute resources instead of 8.

All in all, 4*16 > 8*8, doesn't matter brand, they all have lifetime warranties and get the highest speed possible that's on your motherboards QVL.

From pure curiosity,do you know where I can check if this kit is using the Samsung b-die?I did emailed gskill a few days ago but still no info. Not that it matters since the ram is on the qvl than no problem I suppose.
