New user and recent m90q router build

New to SFF.

I recently purchased a ThinkCentre m90q Gen 3 with i7-12700T and 135W supply. I managed to add a Startech 4-port nic. It was about 1mm too long so made a custom rear bracket to handle it, rather than hacking on the existing one. The m90q the internal PCI connector populated, and it requires a specific riser card. I had a lot of trouble booting up until I disabled all the PXE in the bios.

$lspci | grep -i 'network\|ethernet'
00:14.3 Network controller: Intel Corporation Alder Lake-S PCH CNVi WiFi (rev 11)
00:1f.6 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation Ethernet Connection (17) I219-LM (rev 11)
04:00.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation Ethernet Controller I225-V (rev 03)
05:00.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation Ethernet Controller I225-V (rev 03)
06:00.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation Ethernet Controller I225-V (rev 03)
07:00.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation Ethernet Controller I225-V (rev 03)

My next task is to determine how best to use this. Looking at all options, OPNsense, Proxmox, firewalld,... I'm most experienced using shorewall, since forever.

Welcome to the forum ! I went with OPNsense for a router project and it's very stable, extensible and regularly receives updates, can definitely recommend !
