I want to add an optical drive to my standard M1 v6.1. I figure that with exact measurements I can get a machine shop to cut the slot in the top cover.

I’ve googled and searched forums, yet find no info on this.

I would be very grateful if someone could scan a v6.1 top cover, or just the front half with the slot, and post it. (Or can a newbe like me receive PMs?). I can adjust the print size to a precise overlay of the cover. A PNG or high res jpg would be good.

If anybody has a better idea please let me know!

Thanks in advance for any input.

Morning coffee reveals that my late evening post was real unclear…

Does anybody know where I can get a diagram or blueprint of an M1 v6.1 top cover that has the optical slot?

Failing that, could somebody who has an M1 v6.1 with ODD slot be kind enough to scan the front end of the top cover, and either PM me the file or post it here? It would be a huge help - a machine shop can use the image as a guide for cutting a slot.

Thank you, BaK!!

I did attempt to search that thread but somehow didn’t find that post…

Now on to a machine shop!

Were it not for the ever growing GPU size this M1 case would still be the best case around. So easy to build in.

Thanks again!

Thank you for this offer!

I don’t know if it would fit… however, my case is black so a machine shop cut is probably a better solution for me - after the summer vacation. If this doesn’t work out I’ll get back to you.

There is an incompatibility I think, as mentioned a few months ago in this post and the following one. XD

IIRC I made the top and front panel slightly wider for V2 to aid panel fitment, but this prevented the V2 (and later) top panel from being backward compatible with the V1 front panel, since the newer top panels are slighly too wide to fit between the V1 front panel's flanges.

However, the inverse - V1 top panel with a V2+ front panel - is compatible. It'll just have a bit more of a gap where it meets the front panel at the sides (about 0.3mm on either side).

Thanks a lot for the clarification!

Good to hear from you, hope your well. Very satisficed V1 user here from the original Hardforum batch all these years later. Recently updated to the newer front panel with USB-C and the side panel with better ventilation.
