News MSI X299M Gaming Pro Carbon AC & X299M-A Pro (X299 mATX)

via Anandtech

MSI has announced a new Micro ATX motherboard added to the X299 lineup in the X299M Gaming Pro Carbon AC. Based on the ATX sized X299 Gaming Pro Carbon AC, it has a similar I/O cover shape as well as the painted carbon pattern on the black board. MSI states it shares nearly all features the bigger brother offers, such as multiple PCIe x16 slots for multi-GPU, the same amount of SATA ports, dual M.2 slots, and even the same 10 phase DrMOS PWM make their way onto the smaller X299M Gaming Pro Carbon AC.

MSI (had to triple-google this) hasn't made an X99 mATX board the last round so here's hoping for a greater uptake in downsizing and (may we ask for the stars and the galaxies) pretty TR please, AMD?

Quick specs from page:

  • Skylake-X processors only
    • pictures of a separate mATX board for Kabylake-X processors exists, no official announcement yet
  • Quad Channel DDR4 up to 64GB total, XMP OC up to 4200/4133 MHz
  • PCIe x16 width lane setup
    • 44-lane CPU: x16 x16 x8
    • 28-Lane CPU: x16 x8 x4
  • Crossfire and SLI
  • Two NVME x4 M.2, both slots Optane Ready (Shares bandwidth with 8 SATA sockets)
    • SATA_1 will switch to M.2_1 if a SATA M.2 SSD is used, ditto slot 2
    • NVME RAID 0, VROC module and PCIe M.2 adapters required for RAID 1/5
  • 8 SATA 6Gb, Intel RST RAID 0/1/10/5
  • Dual Intel GbE

Aiboh pointed out in the EVGA one that they shifted the 2066 socket upwards to improve CPU cooler compatibility. the MSI one is at the older spot, which some coolers may interfere with PCIe cards on the first slot

Anandtech says they were told by MSI that the X299M GPC and -A would have a US release roughly in December this year
In the same page but other item news: They have the EVGA X299M with them so review probably next year
