Max diameter for motherboard stand-off?

I need to make a custom stand-off for my custom case build; I need to suspend my mobo up from the case-floor about 3 cm. Like so: https://www.dropbox.com/s/e4csj6o3aamgpeq/Slide1.png?dl=0

But I obviously need to buy some materials for this, and thus I wonder, what is the recommended diameter for such a stand-off? I want maximum strenght, but I obviously don't wanna risk a short-out by having my metal stand-off touching sensitive circuits.

If you need that much height, it wouldn't be standoff, it'll be spacer. You could easily find a cylindrical one (not hexagonal like a usual standoff) made of aluminium. Screw size is usually a standard M3, and outer diameter will follow.

...and about the thickness, do you mean the thickness of the sheet or the standoff's wall ?

I meant diameter of the spacer yes, because I know there is a max limit, as otherwise you start touching surrounding circuits on the mobo.
