Hello everyone,

I'm new to this community but I'd love to hear your thoughts. I'm close to buying the following items below for my first mini-ITX build but I'd like to see if there's one thing (or two) you'd like to change and why.
  • Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 4.2GHz Up to 5.0GHz Socket AM5 Processor
  • Motherboard: Gigabyte X870I AORUS PRO ICE Mini ITX White Motherboard
  • Mini ITX Motherboard: Gigabyte X870I AORUS PRO ICE Mini ITX White Motherboard
  • Case: DEEPCOOL CH160 Portable Mini ITX Computer Case - White
  • Power Supply: FSP Dagger Pro 850W ATX3.0 PCIe5.0 Mini ITX SFX 80 Plus Gold Certified Full Modular Power Supply
  • CPU Cooler: DeepCool Assassin 4S High Performance CPU Air Cooler - White
  • Memory: G.SKILL Trident Z5 NEO RGB 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR5 6000 CL30 AMD EXPO Desktop Memory
  • Storage: Lexar NM790 2TB M.2 2280 PCIe Gen4 NVME Internal SSD
  • Graphics Card: Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER AERO OC 12G Graphics Card
Also, for cables... would you recommend getting an custom extension cables or custom PSU cables? I read that CH160 is notorious to having low to no space for cable management.

Thank you all!

Change your CPU/GPU combo.

Check out this video from Hardware Unboxed where they compare a 7600+4070 Ti to a 7800X3D+4070, in almost all gaming except for some esport titles at 1080 the 7600+4070 Ti is a better choice. This video was done before the Super versions released and the 4070 Ti Super has an even bigger advantage with 16GB of VRAM and 256 bit bus. It's gonna cost you like $480 for a 7800X3D and you can get 7600X currently for $200.

I would +1 on what @rfarmer said above.

If money is not an issue, try to check Ti or Super version.

For example, look at this table of 1660;

GTX 1660
GTX 1660 Super
GTX 1660 Ti
GPU
TU116-300
TU116-300
TU116-400
CUDA Cores
1408
1408
1536
Base Clock
1,530MHz
1,530MHz
1,500MHz
Boost Clock
1,785MHz
1,785MHz
1,770MHz
Memory
6GB GDDR5
6GB GDDR6
6GB GDDR6
Memory Speed
8Gbps
14Gbps
12Gbps
TDP
120w
125w
120w

So it's like
- "Normal" version is the baseline, and
- Super is an improvement because of higher memory speed (14 Gbps vs 8 Gbps, because GDDR6 vs GDDR5 + maybe overclocked a bit)
- While the Ti improve Super even more by using more CUDA cores. You probably can still overclock the memory higher to match the Super.

Granted, this is the 1660. Things might be a bit different with 4070, but you get the idea.

Edit: and don't forget that if you game on resolution higher than 1080p, things get more GPU bound & less on the CPU.

Another thing to consider is that the new Nvidia and AMD cards are coming out over the next couple of months, so might be worth waiting to see what reviews look like on those.

Exchange the PSU for just about anything else. The cables are .. extremely disgusting, as in: THIS is where FSP cheaped out. AF!
And yeah, the goat recommends are: Corsair SF750 / 850 / 1000, Silverstone EX850R, Asus ROG Loki 750 / 850 / 1000, etc.

I'd probably replace the mainboard as well, just because of its proprietary wifi connectors, and some ill-advised ideas on where to position sockets on the PCB. Been pondering it for my own build for a while, because the only white-ish board, but the disadvantages dont seem to be worth the "lets have it whiteish".

If its about USB4, the Asus X670 is the better choice. And at worst, you know, painting aluminium is another question I had before (ie. my solution: use acrylic paint) :D

Rest: Looks good to me. Maybe replace the CPU cooler with one by Thermalright, but I guess at that massive amount of air cooling space, its rather neglectable which brand you pick.
