I was wondering if a unicorn like this existed. Specifically does anyone know there is an sd card reader out there that connects to a 19 or 20 pin USB 3 header that mounts onto a PCI bracket.

Basically the Delock 91743 reader, but it connects via the USB header rather then PCIE. I know the U0909A exists from Bplus but it's USB 2.0 and doesn't look like it supports UHS speeds.

I've found one example (you can try looking into Lenovo, Dell, etc. Mainly the workstation class desktops for the higher SD card speeds. Check reviews of the Desktop model to know for sure what speeds you'll be getting and then search the HP parts website with the model number to find the part you're after. Then search on google for the part number to find a decent price from a reseller): "HP SD Card Reader" (Google that and you'll find one - keep in mind the speed class you're after: UHS-I, UHS-II, etc. The 9pin USB2 varient with be the slower SD Card speeds and the 19pin USB3 might be UHS-II (depending on the model no. There's a lot of them.)

Example of the Card reader installed in a HP Z G4:

As for mounting on a PCIe bracket...gonna have to get creative with that one but it's a start to your search.

Looks good, but I've noticed that is a 11/12 pin cable. Would it be able to work on any non-HP board and there an adapter for the header?

I have found another model with a 20 pin header, the HP 759030-001. Sourcing one that is not expensive will be a pain.

On the other hand, would it be possible to repurpose a laptop sd card reader, like this one on Ebay?
