Hello,

I am looking forward to upgrade my Ryzen 1600x to an 8-cores CPU. After checking some power consumption calculators, they showed what my current corsair sf450 watt power supply may not be enough.

Being curious, I’ve checked current maximum power draw for:

  • B350 itx motherboard
  • Ryzen 1600x
  • 2x16GB OC to 3200MHz ram
  • Strix 1070
  • 2x92mm fans
  • 3x120mm fans
  • External 4tb 2.5” hhd
  • Keyoboard and mouse
  • m.2 960 pro + sata 860 evo ssd’s
  • external usb sound card

Top at 252Watts (Firestrike Ultra, Time Spy, AC: Odyssey)

Is an upgrade to Ryzen 2700x (or future Ryzen 3xxx) will overload my power supply?

what calculators did you look at?
using pc part picker I get it to around 340W

Last one I tried this (and I tweaked cpu voltage (for my 1600x) and gpu frequencies to values I logged with hwinfo):

OuterVision PSU Calculator part list

No, you'll be fine.
If all you do is game you'll still be under 300w total system power draw.
Ok, thank you!

so you want to overclock
Hmm, that is stock settings for both CPU and GPU.
At least 1600x without any modifications in BIOS auto-boost 100MHz by default and go up to 1.24V will all 6-cores load (Cinebench) and gpu also stock-boost up to 1800MHz in games.

just going by this.
the nvidia 1070 is showing 1503 mhz standard, 1683 mhz boost or is yours another supplier model
ryzen is showing base clock of 3.7 with max boost clock 4.3. but yes a standard overboost

the outervision is going on a special calc of power use and delivery with temperatures and time. it may be making assumptions of the psu efficiency with temp over time.

I usually use the pcpart picker wattage and add 100w. I check with the outervision too . . .

the outervision is showing 427w as a load wattage and 477w as recommended, so they give 50W as a clearance (aging over time etc)
kind of suggests that you would function with your psu, but for long term use it might be better to upgrade to a 500W.
interestingly nvidia are saying 500W is recomended .. .
