I've been getting into retro hardware a little more over the past year, so I figured I'd share my Voodoo 5 build.
- Shuttle SK43G Chassis
- Shuttle FX41 Motherboard (from a SK41G, since it has Universal AGP)
- AMD Athlon XP 3000+
- 1GB Corsair XMS Platinum DDR400
- 3DFX Voodoo 5 5500 AGP
- Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS
- 250GB Maxtor IDE 7200rpm HDD
- Creative DXR2 5x DVD-ROM
- Gotek Floppy Emulator
- Seasonic 300w Flex-ATX Power Supply
- Dual booting Windows 98SE and Windows XP SP3
This is how the computer arrived that I based the build on -- I got it for $29 off Ebay:
3DFX Voodoo 5 5500 AGP:
Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS:
Shuttle FX41 motherboard with the CPU, RAM, Voodoo and Sound Blaster mounted (CPU heatsink was swapped for the Shuttle heatpipe cooler after this pic):
New drives installed:
Voodoo testing!
Stripped the paint off the inside of the front plexi cover, then made a new template for the artwork:
10" SVGA CRT monitor:
And today I cut out a hole for a window to see the Voodoo 5, added some hex mesh to the window, added a top handle, painted the case, and painted the fascia orange. Final product:
