Discussion SFF alternative to gaming laptop

Sharing my long term XP here using a lapdesk with an Asus XG17 for the last 18 months or so. I stopped using it as portable machine. Here's why: It's much more quiet than a high end gaming laptop while being more performant Of course it's evolutive Definitively way less easy to move around, you...

Sure, you can just mount 2 top fans where the water block would go. I had to while waiting for my 240, my RTX 3080 was dying without them. I do not remember if you can fix them properly though, I did not to save time.

I did that at first, I used my NH-L9a at first in my H2O. It won't work well because you won't have any top exhaust fans, your GPU will choke very quickly or run at 100% fans, especially if you have one that pumps 300+ Watts. You will quickly want an AIO (with silent fans).

I confirm that I did change the fans on my Glacier 240, which accounts to the final price (unless you have spare fans), with 2 Noctua NF-A12x25 and that had quite a noticeable impact on the overall noise. Techpowerup has very good fan reviews: Silent Wings Pro 4 review. They explain how fans...

AIO prices increased in the last months, probably due to the inflation and the material price rise. 75€ is already very cheap for a 240 AIO. I do not think I have seen one that low. 100€ is a more common price for a quality one these days.

This IS NOT Fine: RTX 4090 User Claims 12 Pin Adapter Burned

Was it so important to launch before Christmas that it was worth developing such a risky adapter before the ATX 3.0 things are widely available? They had 3000 stocks to sell, AMD won't launch before weeks, if not months. Why rushing?

Indeed the 13600k seems to be a fantastic gaming CPU for a very good price and reasonable heat dissipation, especially if you get a previous gen MB. But I need the additional juice that 2 more P-Cores bring.

NZXT Kraken Z53 vs Glacier One 240MP for A4-H2O and i7-13700K

I own the Glacier, what I can tell you after 6 months: Included fans are loud, I replaced them with NH-A12x25 The pump always makes a disturbing water noise at start. It is not bubble noise, more water flow noise. It sometimes goes away during gaming and does not come back until next PC restart...

I am planning on a small upgrade of my H2O config, I need more CPU power for a new project and my B450 mobo has too many issues. I want to keep my DDR4 kit that I bought a few months ago, so no AM5. I plan on getting a 13700k with the Gigabyte B660I Aorus Pro DDR4. I am aware that the mobo...

Discussion Power hungry systems and SFF cases

I do not see why you mention the 1L NUC, it only contains a laptop CPU and a M.2 drive. Totally different product than the NUC 13 Extreme. Although they do not share the max size of the 3-slot GPU it can host.

Discussion Power hungry systems and SFF cases

True, even the RTX 4080 16GB could still be manageable in a H2O with the Corsair SF750, paired with a heavy 16 cores CPU. Intel is also preparing a super volume-optimized NUC (13.9L) for 3-slots GPUs...

Discussion Power hungry systems and SFF cases

The most important for me as a user of "SFF" builds was that I could pack a no-compromise CPU + GPU in a case that can fit in my backpack and bring with me on the go. Hence the 20L definition. I tried a NR200P, just way too big and heavy to carry it around. Maybe other builders just like the...

    Discussion Cooling concerns AM5?

Techpowerup tested the 7950x with a 360 AIO, the NH-U14s and the AMD Wraith Spire: https://www.techpowerup.com/review/amd-ryzen-9-7950x-cooling-requirements-thermal-throttling/ Spoiler alert: the differences are smaller that you anticipated.

Discussion Power hungry systems and SFF cases

Well, technically if you can build up a 15 liter case with liquid cooling adapters for CPU and GPU that would just require to be connected to an external pump and radiators, like the XMG Oasis for laptops, you are still a SFF build right? Maybe that's not such a stupid idea...

Discussion Power hungry systems and SFF cases

You can get rid of the big air cooler of the new GPU with a liquid cooling plate, that's great. But where do you put the 240mm+ radiator that goes with it in a SFF case? You would need a custom loop cooling down the CPU and the GPU with 1 radiator, but that's going to be super costly and...
