Here is a picture of my setup: The intake fan is on the side (shown unmounted on the photo), and the exhaust is on the rear. There isn't any space left between the top panel and the U9S for a top fan, and there is also no point to using a top fan, due how the fins of the U9S are oriented.

I think the U9S should work just fine with the 3900X as long as you don't want to overclock. According to Noctua's site the U9S is capable of cooling the 3900X and even the 3950X with "low turbo/overclocking headroom". Keep in mind that the LZ7 XTD is an exceptionally well ventillated case. If...
