@Damascus - Mostly it's adding a high-power 3.3v line and a 1.8v_enable line to the MXM interface. I can't find any of it online, but I have a hard copy around here someplace.
Wanted to share this - Spotted it "offbrand" before finding the UpgradeYourLaptop version, but they look almost identical.

It's extremely likely your USB-C devices are just USB 3.0, and should be able to be adapted to standard USB-A.
But yes, for any USB, you need a hub, and I don't think there are any yet for Type-C, for the lack of devices which need them *and* run USB, not any alt-modes.
That shouldn't be too hard to fix at all - Use a hot air station to remove the white connector, and solder the standard front panel connector's wires directly into place. It's all passive, and you can test it on a standard desktop motherboard.
If you wanted to get fancy and do a bit less...
It's worse, they use a proprietary motherboard and proprietary modular video card! At these retail sales numbers, replacement parts are nearly impossible to find.
