News HDPlex 200W AC-DC - I'm surprised nobody is talking about this

Wow you make so many wrong assumptions! And continue to misread what I write. Those are frankly very annoying traits. 1. No he specifically refused to exchange it. This is not a factory error nor a mistake in judgement. 2. I don't use that HDPlex DC-ATX PSU but another one altogether. 3...

News HDPlex 200W AC-DC - I'm surprised nobody is talking about this

He DID NOT offer a repacement item! Take it or leave it. Of course I understand he doesnt see the items shipped but when I report an issue regarding a damaged item I'd expect it to be exchanged for an undamaged one. Which shop refuses to replace a damaged item you paid full price for? Second...

News HDPlex 200W AC-DC - I'm surprised nobody is talking about this

that's incorrect info on the website, it's got a 6 pin output. He adjusted the spec page but it still got the wrong pictures.

News HDPlex 200W AC-DC - I'm surprised nobody is talking about this

I bought the 200W AC-DC adapter after my 160W AC-DC adapter from HD-Plex suddenly died on me, and have mixed feelings of the product and service. I did not receive any warranty on the 160W adapter because it was 'a stolen batch' offered on eBay, which apparently also was defective. Money gone...

    Lowering SSD temperatures

if there is copper inside then yes it's maybe better to keep it there. But still, a copper heatsink will much better dissipate the heat as the surface area will increase significantly.

    Lowering SSD temperatures

There are really thin copper heatsinks available as thin as 2mm. Judging from the picture a 2 or 4mm copper heatsink should be no problem? Also: remove that sticker! That should be the #1 thing to do right away. It prevents the air from the fan to get in direct contact with the chips.

    300 Series thin-itx?

The Asrock IMB-1215 has Full 3.0x16 AND two (!) PCI 3.0 M.2 slots for storage. The only thing I worry about is the chipset on the backside, does that take any extra space, anybody know??

News AMD's Press Conference - my SFF perspective

I get that people are extremely sceptic about Intel's 10nm but they have made very strong statements indicating they turned a corner. For desktop this year another 14nm iteration or maybe even half node is the most likely scenario. 7nm is still ways off (2021 the very very earliest) and we will...

News AMD's Press Conference - my SFF perspective

Sunny Cove is already spotted in the wild as Ice Lake ES, with strong statements it will launch this year in high volume, and has been demoed. It's no less vaporware than Zen2 at this point. Nice try at trolling though.

News AMD's Press Conference - my SFF perspective

it looks like these Zen2 IO dies will be real power hogs. The threadripper IO uses about 25-30W around idle and 45W from 16-32 threads. As the ES CB15 demo displayed around 20W higher system idle compared to the 9900K (67W vs 46W) it looks like the IO die of Ryzen3 won't perform much better. So...

Other Apple Announces Mac Mini Refresh

Uhm, apple was the first to offer an OEM SFF with the Cube. Apple has been about SFF since, like, forever. Even their mac pro is SFF nowadays. Mac users OTOH i'd wager a guess only a minority cares about SFF, and an even smaller part about USFF like the mac mini. Also, you seem to mistake SFF...

Other Apple Announces Mac Mini Refresh

No I'm not. I perfectly understand the use of an iGPU actually and the CPU offerings is finally what it should be. There should be a more affordable entry mac pro for those looking for a solid GPU solution. But paying $3000 for a system with usable storage that you can build yourself for less...

Other Apple Announces Mac Mini Refresh

How about building a SFF for it's intended purpose and not as a band-aid for those still mourning for Xserve (RIP)?

Other Apple Announces Mac Mini Refresh

Who builds a SFF PC and then thinks: Shoot, no space for a dGPU and I need one for X Y Z reason? An eGPU is a great solution for gamers that only have a laptop. But for a PC? it's stupid. Also, how much extra space would it cost for a few 2.5" Brackets? We're talking one cm extra height. An...

Other Apple Announces Mac Mini Refresh

External storage (and an eGPU) kindof defeat the purpose of a SFF... by adding just one cm to the height there would be space for two removable SSD disks. An extra M.2 slot would have taken even less extra space. to me the beauty of SFF is having an integrated yet compact computing solution. If...
