Apologies for interrupting. This is how on Linux I got the combined headphones-microphone jacks, specifically the bottom one (left one), to properly work as output and input: Add this line to any file in /etc/modprobe.d, but ideally /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf (power_save=0 is not essential...

Only AMD cpus with G as suffix, i. e. APUs, will run in the A300. We've tried, and there's no hope for any other setup. I understand you want a VM host (Linux has KVM by the way, you'd connect using “Spice”; more on linux-kvm.org) – the A300 could do but an 3400G is currently the most recent...

Just a quick update due to Linux 5.6.0: Starting with said version NVMe/PCIe/M.2 drives (writing it that way for search engines) will appear as hwmonX entries in sensors listings. This will result in fancontrol.service failing for security reasons, and the automatic (louder) fan control that...

PCIe hot-plugging is not supported. I've tested that for y'all today by accidentally plucking my NGFF drive. ;) 1. Don't buy the A300W unless you need Wifi+BT like “now.” The card is outdated. Here you'll find what I recommend, delivery off Ebay or whathaveyou will take some days though...

There's been changes in the standards, such as dropping the +3.3V line. Some drives might as well run off +5V alone. Might try it with my HGST He8 Ultrastar eventually, though its datasheet says both are required. I wouldn't be super surprised if they connected the +12V anyway, hence me asking...

3200G (≠ 3400G) here, with the boxed Wraith Stealth. I've posted my fan control settings in this thread. Whenever it's about to go idle I (automatically) put mine to transcoding, virtually 24/7, for months now. Which kinda says what I think about the VRM temps, and underutilized processing...

I'm happy to report that the same applies to the Wraith Spire. I've even published my fan control configuration here. (And tested the Cryorig Cu.) Assume I know what I'm talking about.

Well, do share! As for Gris – I like how it conveys a universal “experience” without resorting to words. Well, not really ‘universal’, but many are affected by it in a way or another (for quite many reasons and causes…). I hope that's close enough putting it without any spoilers. Journey has...

(Write and read- (!)) Performance difference between the 660p and 665p is minimal once the drive is filled >50%. If you went with the 660p, perhaps even for a better price, it's still been a good enough choice imho. If someone is willing to pay 20% or more premium, then a TLC drive is the...

Hi @fadsarmy: Plugging in a headset with microphone (four rings on the jack) when the machine has booted both get detected. Leaving it plugged in and powering on, the mic is not detected; it's audio-out only. o_O Edit: bottom/left socket. The middle/top one seems to be audio-out only and...

What on god's green earth made you think, stepping up presenting a crooked comparison were a good idea? It's probably the thought of people like that which makes Linus from Tech Tips do unchristian things to himself to better his mood every morning. I'm aware you might be as much jesting as I...

    What games are you playing?

RDR2 is on Stadia, though. As for me, I'm currently exploring a kind of games: Gris, Night in the Woods, Journey (finished), Oxenfree. In the hopes I find something that's as good as a good movie or art; something must change or remain once you put it aside.

For power saving settings I shamelessly recommend you read my initial post if you're going with Linux, which I assume. Non-headless 7.2W are easy—and I've exactly the same setup (excluding memory) you're describing. 6W and less can be achieved by removing and downclocking hardware. ~3.5W if...

Dual Rank doesn't determine the bandwidth, merely how many (then shorter) queues the data gets read into.

Findings of mine: The Asrock A300 & Wraith Stealth cannot be run semi-passive. A bit of airflow is needed for the adjacent parts, and the APU reaches throttling threshold if passive with the occasional process you'd reasonably run on such a home-server (like, Nginx). Now throttling won't do...
