Storage Partaker B18 on AliExpress... 5x5 board with flat soDIMMs and 3xM.2!

Does the adapter board itself drop the voltage for the 5v down to 3.3v? I can see numerous adapter have a 4 pin power input - and I'm pretty sure red wire means 5v, but some of the adapters have LEDs to show the voltages, and these are clearly labelled 3.3v and 12v (plus the whole PCIE spec...

Does the m.2 card actually even need the 5v? the example i linked to before seems to show the 4 pins running through a couple of adapter to an external 12v with the extra pins for 5v not even wired up at all.

Question for @NateDawg72 - How do you plan to provide power to that board, or is power even needed at all if the GPU is being powered over the 6/8 pin power connector?

To answer my own question: here is a pretty good explanation of how one would wire up the m.2 to pcie x4 slot, power it and use it for a custom bottom plate: https://ganon.club/index.php/2019/04/04/getting-10gbps-on-a-skull-canyon-nuc-without-thunderbolt-3-ngff-to-pcie-x4-riser/

My B18 has arrived (the i9) and I've been slowly playing around and figuring out what I want to build. I also grabbed an R43SG to hook up as an egpu. Works like it should, but the the R43SG board is quite large - just the pcb itself it is a good bit longer than the B18. My old expresscard EGPU...

I've been thinking about the exact same idea as @NateDawg72 described: using the board as MB only, hooking up a GPU through one of the PCIE slots, and designing a custom case. I haven't bit the bullet yet and ordered one, but I have a few thoughts going through my head: 1) Is it using a...
