This was exactly my process as well. About $100 premium for an admittedly good-looking replica but with almost zero media coverage. I thought the whole point of Chinese knock-offs was the lower price lol. -

There's a pretty comprehensive info sheet in the first post, but mainly it's that the sandwich version has a riser which makes it so that the GPU is vertically mounted, while the reference model has a classic riser-less layout.
