Great to hear the good news. Bill did share with me their finding on the not fully fastened heatsink screw last week. However, I am not sure if that is due to the few ways of shipping or I did not tight it enough after I repaste. Since that unit has throttling before I repaste and my replaced...
Emm, I measured 58-61dB-A max right beside the rig. It is NOT in a isolated sound chamber nor with calibrated equipment though. It may actually be that the unit I got was faulty. I have received the replacement unit just now. The replacement process is rather smooth. Will test it out in 1-2 days.
Just a bit of supporting evidence, the unit I sent back had GPU temp dropped from 88c to 81c when a 140mm fan outside of casing blowing at the GPU. I guess that introduce a positive pressure to the internal.
The review is from me LoL. The Asrock guy on Newegg told that I am the only one reported this problem. My replacement unit is sent today. Hope there is improvements.
No throttling. The frequency remains around 1560Hz.
According to Nvidia the base frequency of 1080 is at 1607Hz so there is a bit of throttling? Cool the unit with a external fan drops GPU temp to around 78-80c which does give the frequency a slight boost to around 1600Hz.
Changed the compound to Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut
Machine standing up
3DMark stress test (Fire Strike) /Battlefield 4 /PUBG (1920*1020 all ultra) - all stable at 88-90c after around 3-5mins.
Fan strategy setting does not matter since the fan speed forced to max when above 80c.
Quick update: Asrock tech support replied that the 1080 GPU should not exceed 85c in 3DMark (I assume it means 3DMark stress test) in room temperature of 35c. This is much lower than the 88-90c I got considering my room temperature is around 20c. I have filed the replacement request...
I would wait if I knew that. I kinda prefer 1070 version since the same heatsink is more likely to be adequate and the performance is totally sufficient for me. Unfortunately it seems the 1070 is diverted to be sold in Taiwan and other Asia countries and I don't see asrock rush to launch it in...
I actually did some measurement and found some alternative fans on ebay/amazon/newegg. Those are genetic brand from china as repair parts for the graphic cards. But they are used in branded cards and comes with few more blades than the stock 6 blade. So there is a chance to be quieter. I have...
Thank you for the reply. Yes, the 88c comes exactly from Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut. The original paste shown around 92c. I am thinking of swapping to liquid metal, but not too sure if the bottleneck is the compound or the heatsink/fan.
The fan does not seem to be a top build like the noctua I...
Has anyone else tested the 1080 version? I got mine today. The GPU temperature always stables at around 88c (190f) in games. Based on the BIOS, anything above 80c is critical temperature and the fan is forced to max out to be a jet engine. Any solution?
