I've got them as intake: There's a couple of mm of space underneath, but they are almost touching the GPU.

I managed to get two NF-A12x15 fans on the bottom under my 2080ti FE. It is very snug!

The open channel through the centre of the case, the flipped GPU to accomodate the new 30 series cooler design..

Personally, I think using a square layout for the ventilation holes would not only look a bit better, but also allow for more of them. But that's just me liking straight lines and not curved edges. Though, saying that, I do like the curved channel running through the centre! I will watch how...

Just because it doesn't fit your narrow use-case doesn't make it a mistake. Some creators want to ensure it canvasses a wider audience.
