SilverStone SX650-G and SX500-G finally incoming!

After much anticipation, product pages for the new SilverStone SX650-G and SX500-G SFX power supplies have popped up on the website. We first shared news of these units when they were initially shown off way back in January of 2016. Since then we’ve checked in with SilverStone for status updates on them first at CES 2017, and again just a few months ago at Computex. So you can imagine how excited we are to see that these units will soon enter retail availability. According to SilverStone, the new PSUs started shipping from the factory a few days ago and will hopefully …

SilverStone at Computex 2017 – Workstation and Server

Members of the forum are aware of this, but I’m a workstation and server nut. I love systems built for purpose, for work. Possibly because I work so hard in everything I do! When we visited the SilverStone booth at  Computex 2017, I was in awe of some of the hardware they had on display – cases and accessories built for purpose, for work! Sitting next to the bolder RVZ04, a much subtler chassis sat, the VT02. Much more my style! A couple of NUC cases and an external optical (what’s that?!) drive were nearby. Ah-hah! Workstation and storage stuff! From …

SFX Computex 2017 roundup

As promised, here is the SFX power supply Computex 2017 roundup. While not as extensive as the SFX-L roundup and they’re mostly budget units, more competition and options in this space is always very welcome. Akasa As covered in the Akasa booth article, they have two upcoming SFX units of 350W and 450W capacity. They are non-modular, feature a 92mm fan, and are of Bronze-equivalent efficiency. I say equivalent because the display units at least did not feature a 80 PLUS rating but a “85% efficient” label instead. The OEM is Sirfa/High Power. Cooler Master When we checked in with Cooler Master …

SFX-L Computex 2017 roundup

There sure were SFX-L units all over the exhibit hall at Computex this year! I love this because I truly believe that SFX and SFX-L have the potential to supplant ATX as the standard form factors for PC power supplies (reducing the space the PSU takes up inside the case in the process), and we’re starting to reach an inflection point of SFX and SFX-L PSU availability from multiple companies. The reason I say that is because having more SFF power supply options encourages case manufacturers to design around the form factor, which in turn creates a bigger market for these PSUs, which encourages …

SilverStone’s new Argon AR11 49mm LP cooler

Rounding out our coverage of SilverStone’s booth from Computex 2017 is a new addition to the Argon series of CPU coolers, the Argon AR11 low-profile heatsink. The heatsink is about 94mm x 97.5mm (including the tips of the heatpipes) in width, but the height measures in at exactly 49mm excluding the tops of the fan mounting screws. The air pusher that will come with the AR11 is a 92mm x 20mm PWM fan that attaches to the heatsink with four screws. So swapping the fan with a shorter one to reduce the overall height is just a matter of using appropriately shorter …

SilverStone cases at Computex 2017: PIO and Micro-STX

When we rolled up to the SilverStone booth on the opening day of Computex, we got there a bit early and planned to check out the nearby booths before our meeting with SilverStone.  But that plan got derailed when we spied this fascinating prototype at the front of the booth: This is a prototype case that utilizes the PIO motherboard form factor, a rare variety of mobo that features a PCIe slot along the top edge of the board rotated so that it is parallel with the plane of the motherboard’s PCB. There has been discussion on the forum for the past …

SilverStone Power Supplies at Computex 2017

We stopped by the SilverStone booth yesterday, and I already covered the prototype fanless 450W SFX-L because it’s just so crazy (in an awesome way). But of course SilverStone had other power supplies to look at, so here they are: First off is a FlexATX form factor PSU, the FX350. As the name implies, it is a 350W unit with Gold-rated efficiency and the 12V rail capable of the full rated wattage alone. Fortunately for SFF builders this is of the shorter 150mm length FlexATX variety. The cables are sleeved, though it’s nothing special. I’m not sure if they’ll do it …

Hands on with SilverStone’s NJ450-SXL fanless SFX-L prototype!

In a SFF Network exclusive, we take a took at a early SilverStone prototype of a 450W fanless (you read that right, completely passively cooled) SFX-L power supply here at Computex 2017! The prototype arrived at the SilverStone booth on the show floor hot off a flight from the factory in China, just as we were starting to wrap up our visit with Tony Ou, SilverStone’s marketing manager. It was so last minute, in fact, that Tony didn’t even know it was going to be here! Before we begin gushing, though, let’s talk specs. This new unit conforms to the SFX-L …
